You may be familiar with our building on Main Street. Maybe you've seen us serving out refreshments at the parade. Or you've said hello while we're flipping pork burgers and hot dogs at Sparks in the Park. Possibly, you've seen us engaged with the schools, either sponsoring the Academic Bowl team, or offering scholarships to local students. Could have been one of our blood drives.
Or maybe you've seen the Shriner's Tin Lizzie Patrol in the parades. A family member has received services from the Scottish Rite's Children's Dyslexia Center of Springfield. Someone you know treated at the Shriner's Hospital in St. Louis, Chicago, or elsewhere in the world.
Just maybe, it's something more basic than all of that. You found an old apron in your grandfather's heirlooms. A hat or fez in your uncle's closet. See your brother or cousin wearing a ring, with a square and compasses displayed proudly.
Whatever brought you here, welcome.
Freemasons help build stronger communities in a variety of ways. From supporting local students striving to fulfill their academic goals, to hosting community blood drives, to being involved in local community events, Masonry is engaged in making our towns and neighborhoods better places to live.
Freemasonry is a family, a brotherhood, comprised of men who admire, respect, and support one another. We share one another's joy in the best of times, and lean upon one another in the worst of times. When a Brother is in need, his Lodge (and often many others) answer the call.
One of the most important cornerstones of Freemasonry is the drive to improve ourselves, and to assist one another in the endeavor. Perhaps the greatest purpose of the Lodge is to take a good man and give him the tools an support to make himself better. In doing so, we help him also make his family and community better, as well.
When the day's labor is done, Masons can look to one another for moments of friendship and family. Weekends are sweeter and holidays are brighter when shared with those we care about, and our Lodge and our Brothers help us make the most of leisure time with smiles, laughs, and just good, clean fun.
Freemasonry encourages all Brothers to learn and grow within their faith, whatever form that may take. It is often said to be, "A Brotherhood of Man, Under the Fatherhood of God." We stress the importance of faith, but press no specific religion or beliefs upon any person - each Brother expresses his faith as he will.
Masons know that charity outlives us all, and it is one of those actions we are most admonished to make a part of our lives. As Masons, we seek to give and support as liberally as possible, be it scholarships for local students, meals to those who might go without, and funds for those most in need.
